The medieval manor of Woking was in the gift of the Crown and what became Woking Palace was originally the manor house of the manor. The manor was more nor less co-terminous with the ancient parish of St Peter’s excluding the smaller manors of Sutton and Bridley. The manor also included small parts of the adjacent parishes of Horsell, Pyrford and Send.
